Michael Schumacher Latest News: Journalist Moncet Retracts Statement Blaming GoPro Head Gear for Schumy's Extensive Injuries
New Developments have come up in the Michael Schumacher injury case whereby the French Journalist who linked the head injuries that he got from the Go Pro camera he was wearing when the accident took place has retracted his comments saying that it was in fact his opinion. Moncet Jean who is a well known Formula 1 journalist reporting on the issue originally claimed that the camera was part of the problem and seemed to imply that he had spoken to Schumacher's son, Mick who allegedly concurred on the same details. Predictably, the shares in GoPro, which is the American wearable camera producer, took a dive as of Monday as the investors reacted to the comments and this has raised concerns about the device which is usually attached to a helmet.
According to the latest reports, the shares fell as much as 16% in New York trading but later came back up. We know who to thank for that apparently. However, the stock is trading at $72.87, which is below the September's record high trading of $96.45. In a series of tweets, Moncets said that his comments where he speculated the device may have worsened Schumacher's head injuries, were supposedly just his opinion.
Earlier this week, there were reports which suggest GoPro was exploring legal options fearing damage to their reputation. The seven time champion Michael Schumacher, suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident in the French Alps. He was later put in an induced coma to relieve pressure in his brain and has since been transferred from medical facilities to his home near Laussane, Switzerland. Whether or not the GoPro head gear was the cause of his severe injuries is beside the point at the moment, but it could still hurt the company considering it will be slated as hazard equipment. Similarly, GoPro is about to release a next generation device into the market and that could damage sales seeing as the device is to be used for extreme sports filming and capture.
