The arena for the battle of the best small tablet has been recently open, after Google and HTC unveiled their co-produced Nexus 9 and Apple announced the release of their own iPad Mini 3. It seems like things are getting really tough not only for the developers of this gadgets but also for the consumers.
With so many gadgets available, powered with different features and specifications, consumers may find it hard to choose what device is right to purchase. To get you going, here is the comparison of the latest small tablet that will soon hit the market.
Made by two American tech-giants, Nexus 9 and iPad 3 will surely have a face-off in small tablet market. So which is better?
In terms of design, Trusted Reviews cited that the aesthetic features of the two small tablets are almost the same. They only differed in terms of material. Nexus 9 is made up of soft, matte plastic back with brushed metal sides while iPad mini 3 has the Apple trademark aluminum body. Apple’s newest mini tablet is thinner by a little margin at 7.5 mm compared to Google’s at 7.9mm. iPad mini 3 is also lighter at 331g. and 341g. variants, compared to Nexus 9 at 425g.
Nexus 9, although still considered a small tablet, has the bigger display compared to iPad mini 3 at 8.9-inch versus 7.9-inch. Though both displays have 2048 x 1536 resolution, Nexus has QXGA resolution while iPad mini 3 has Retina display. Nexus 9 has better snappers with 8MP rear and 1.6MP front camera compared to iPad mini 3’s 5MP rear and 1.2MP front snapper.
Both tablets has 64-bit processors. HTC and Google’s Nexus 9 is powered by Tegra K1 CPU with 2GB RAM while Apple’s iPad mini 3 has Apple A7 CPU, just like its predecessor and other Apple device. In terms of storage, the two tablets have different variants available. Nexus has 16GB and 32GB variants while iPad mini 3 is available at 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB options. It is also noted that both tablets have no micro SD slot.
Nexus 9 and iPad mini 3 has different latest software packed in it. Google and HTC set Nexus 9 as the first device to have the newest Android Lollipop 5.0, as reported by Techradar, while Apple powered iPad mini 3 with its latest iOS 8. In terms of additional unique features, Nexus 9 has NFC support and HTC Boomsound speakers while iPad mini 3 has Touch ID, and Apple Pay feature.
These two small tablets are now available for pre-orders and Gotta Be Mobile cited that “iPad mini 3 ships starting sometime late next week and Google’s Nexus 9 will ship at the end of October.” More or less, Nexus 9 and iPad mini 3 will be available next month.
But how much does these two new tablet cost? The price of the Nexus 9 and iPad mini 3 is almost the same. Apple’s new small tablet cost $399 for 16GB variant up to $600 for 128GB variant. If you want an iPad mini 3 with 4G LTE you need to shell-out $529, $629, or $729 depending on your desired memory package.
Google and HTC Nexus 9 is available at $399 for 16 GB, $479 for 32GB and $599 for 32GB option with 4G LTE.
