James Bond 24 updates: Latest James Bond flick still looking for a Bond Girl, Kate Upton and Penelope Cruz in the short list

James Bond 24 news: It looks like the position for the newest Bond Girl is still vacant. Two possible candidates, however, have stood out from the competition.

Sports Illustrated model Kate Upton and Spanish superstar Penelope Cruz have been eyed to fill in the highly coveted role, a role that has been portrayed by the likes of Halle Berry and Denise Richards.

While Upton is up for the role, she admits that she needs to do some preparation.

"It's a very prestigious title, and it would be a very cool role. I would need to go through some intense training to learn all the Bond Girl moves," Upton shared in an interview.

Rumors have it that the James Bond 24 team is keen on getting Penelope Cruz for the longest time.

"Bond bosses have been chasing her [Penelope Cruz] since Daniel became 007 in 2006. But schedules and her pregnancies meant it never materialised. At this stage no one at Sony will confirm it," reports The Sun.

James Bond 24 movie plot picks up from where Skyfall left off, with Sam Mendes back to direct the film.

In an interview with Vulture, Mendes says:

"Hopefully we'll reclaim some of the old irony, and make sure it doesn't become pastiche. I can't do shtick, I'm not very good at it. Unless it kind of suddenly makes sense. Does that make sense? I sometimes wish I hammed it up more, but I just can't do it very well, so I don't do it."

"My goal is to write a great movie that's appropriate, to build on what we did on 'Skyfall,' but make it its own unique animal, the themes, ideas, and the characters from 'Skyfall' can obviously continue on, because it is a franchise, and it is an ongoing story," said writer John Logan.

James Bond 24 release date has been set for October 23, 2015 in the UK and November 6, 2015 in the US.
