'Star Trek 3' Release Date: Character of 'Star Trek: Generations' Brings Back to Action
Speculations has been brewing that Actor Wiliam Shatner, who portrayed the character of the original James T. Kirk in "Star Trek: Generations" two decades ago, might appear in the forthcoming "Star Trek 3," scheduled for release in 2016. The role is yet to be finalized.
As reported by Fox News, Shatner expressed his willingness to take part in the movie on the condition that he'll be given, "a role that had something to do with the turning of the plot." He even voiced out his apprehensions saying that, "That was so long ago. How do they bring me back physically like this? I don't know," he says.
The actor had a small talk with Roberto Orci, the first time Director of Star Trek 3, about the upcoming film and his possible role, considering that the character of Captain Kirk is said to be played by another actor, Chris Pine.
To mark the series' 50th Anniversary, it was also reported by Screencast that "Star Trek 3" will have veteran writers, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to draft the script. The two were also tapped for "Amazing Spiderman 3" slated on 2016.
While "Star Trek 3" is in the offing, the actor and his wife are into a six-episode, "The Shatner Project", a show about their home, bought 50 years ago. Aside from that, his hands are full with other productive endeavours, motorcycle designs, clothing line, with three films that will be out soon, just to mention a few.
His commitment to numerous projects which are being done simultaneously speaks of his undying passion not only for the entertainment industry, but to other ventures as well. At the age of 83, one can see no trace of slowing down. This is affirmed by his statement at Sky News, when he said, "What does retiring mean? It means you want to step back from what you're doing and do something else that's more interesting. I'm in the middle of such a fertile, febrile fantasy that anybody would wish for what I'm doing."
