'Best of Me': Another Story by Nicholas Sparks That Will Leave Mark in the Movie Industry
Nicholas Sparks' ninth and latest book-to-movie adaptation, "Best of Me", has hit the theaters and while the movie seems to have given its best, it seems that it is still not enough. "Best of Me" will surely be leaving a mark in the movie industry like the other Sparks novels but this time around, it may be a not-so-good mark at all.
Known for his tear-wrenching romantic novels, including "A Walk to Remember," "The Notebook," "Message in a Bottle," "Dear John," "The Lucky One," "The Last Song" and a few others, it is safe to say that Sparks has easily earned the spot of being one of the most successful writers of his time, earning of billions of dollars in a span of 15 years.
Yet, it seems that the acclaimed author lost his spark with his latest offer, with the "Best of Me" seeing a not so good opening weekend in the box office.
According to The Wrap, the movie that stars Michelle Monaghan and James Marsden earned $10.2 million on its opening, which is the lowest ever out of all of Sparks' novel adaptations, way below the $12 million box office opening of 2012's "A Walk to Remember." It did not even make it half to the $21 million earnings of his last movie, "Safe Haven."
Based on Business Insider, a movie's success usually depends on the level of excitement generated by the marketing and the cast and in the case of "Best of Me," it seems to be not enough. Sparks' romance movies were also traditionally released during spring or early summer and never did he release one in October, which probably explains the not so good opening weekend.
"Best of Me" tells the story of the good hearted but poor hunk Dawson and the wealthy and pushy Amanda, played respectively by James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan in the present day, and by Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato in the flashback. The two are high school sweethearts coming from the opposite sides of a small town in Louisiana. They reunite after twenty years because of the death of a friend, Tuck, played by Gerald McRaney.
