Tomorrowland Movie Release Date and Other Latest News: Disney to Move Tomorrowland Release to Summer Alongside Blockbuster Hits
With Star Wars Episode VII having been moved from its anticipated Summer 2015 release date to instead the winter, another sci-fi fantasy adventure family movie has been set to take its coveted slot. The Brad Bird-directed Tomorrowland, which was co-written by Damon Lindelof and will be starring George Clooney as well as several other stars, has been moved from its December 2014 release and now to May 22, 2015.
This move shows, for one, that Disney-who owns both sci-fi movies-doesn't see both as competition, and that, two, the company has utter confidence in Bird's upcoming film. Being moved to a summer opening, Tomorrowland is consequently set to be facing blockbuster (and equally much awaited) films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Terminator 5 and a lot more. Setting this original story alongside these highly-regarded, popular sci-fi hits proves just how much Disney thinks that it will perform at par with them.
Here is an official description of the Tomorrowland movie plot:
"Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland."
Don't forget to catch the Tomorrowland release date and theatrical premiere on May 22, 2015 and judge for yourself whether this strategic move by Disney was a smart one or not.
