If you missed "Madam Secretary Season 1" episode 5, "Blame Canada," this recap is for you.
International Business Times reported that Madam Secretary herself wanted to deal with the conflict in a peaceful way but the President wanted to resort in a military action against Iran. The official synopsis for the Season 1 episode 5 stated "Elizabeth faces the daunting task of negotiating with Iran over their escalating nuclear program."
Madam Secretary's main character, Elizabeth Mccord, along with her team was forced to be creative in persuading President Dalton to resort in a peaceful negotiation with Iran. The Middle East country refused to shut down its nuclear reactor, thus posing a threat to any nation. President Dalton got an advice from Allen Bollings, peace talks negotiator. Bollings said it is better to take down the nuclear reactor through military force.
Elizabeth, on the other hand, suggested the 'lifting the U.S. ban on trade of commercial plane parts in exchange for Iran shutting down the reactor and agreeing to outside inspection'. Bollings considered her suggestion, Washingtonian reported.
Meanwhile, Madam Secretary then faced another issue when an under-construction oil pipeline in Canda was bombed. Canadian Ambassador claimed the act was considered an eco-terrorism and asked for Elizabeth's approval with Secretary marsh proposal.
Madam Secretary then read and called up the author of the proposal and she learned that 'the report was actually written by oil lobbyists, who happened to be some of Marsh's biggest supporters.' Elizabeth then refused in partaking in the report that she considers 'misleading'.
"Madam Secretary Season 1" episode 5 also showed Henry was named on the hottest spouses of government officials and because of this, Jason decided to make his father the subject of his school paper. During the interview between the father and son, Jason along with the viewers learned Hnery's back story as a fighter pilot. While the father and son was busy talking inside a restaurant, a drunken airman heckled Henry. The incident scared Jason but after that he asked his father if he killed someone during his stint as a fighter pilot.
On the other hand, peace talks between the White house and he Iranian officials have gotten worse. As their options become limited, madam Secretary and her team thought a nuclear war seemed inevitable. Elizabeth was also instructed by the President to approve the pipeline report. Madam Secretary then asked for more months for a new pipeline report as she said the initial report was tainted with misinformation. She also asked for another day to be able to fix the problem with Iran.
"Madam Secretary Season 1" episode 5 is indeed packed with conflicts. So better stay tune for the next episode.
