Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters 2 Release Date, Cast and Other news: Wirkola will not Return as Director and Jeremy Renner May Not Come Back as Hansel
As much as we have been highly anticipating Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters 2, the sequel to the first movie, it would seem that some of our hope has been dashed. Tommy Wirkola, the director behind the hit twisted fairy tale, recently announced that he will not be directing the film's sequel.
Fangoria reports that Wirkola wants to do more than just create sequels. However he did offer some comfort saying that he had penned the script and had turned in the draft to Paramount Pictures and is still willing to produce Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters 2 together with Gary Sanchez Productions. All Paramount needs to do is to look for a new director.
Another rumor going around is that with Wirkola gone, Jeremy Renner may not be able to come back and reprise his role as Hansel.
Looking at the bright side of things, Wirkola shared a teaser of the Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters 2 plot where he stated that the sequel will involve some voodoo and the likes in it.
Despite the first Hansel and Gretel film's delay, failed promotions and bad reviews, the film still managed to grab an audience and rack up an international box office amount of about $226 million. Because of its success, Paramount Pictures promised a sequel by 2016.
