Cinderella News, Rumors and Updates: Blanchett Cast as Villain in Movie as Disney Avails Trailer and Poster

The upcoming Disney remake of Cinderella will be released with a stellar cast including Oscar winning Cate Blanchett. The movie is set to tell the story of the classic fairy tale that we all know so well. Good news though, the trailer for the upcoming 2015 movie and its poster are now available via Walt Disney. As such, "Downtown Abbey" star Lily James will play the role  of the young and orphaned princess Ella, who lives with her mother and two evil step sisters.  On the other hand, Richard Madden, famous for the portrayal of Rob Stark in 'Game of Thrones', is going to play the character of Kit, the humble Prince Charming. As  yet,  there are already a few things that we know about this movie.

For example, we know that Cate Blanchett will be the antagonist in the film. She is well known for her diversity in roles and for her compelling screen presence.  Helena Bonham Carter will be the Fairy Godmother. The fans of the film are wondering why it was Blanchett who was selected for the villain role when Bonham Carter is in the movie as she is known for playing the witchy parts (read Bellatrix Lestrange). Director Kenneth Branagh has subverted the audience's expectations and this makes for one of the more interesting choices for the cast that Disney has had in some time.

As such, it is not a surprise Disney already has a TV deal in the works. The feature is set to premiere on TV in the middle of 2017 which would almost be two years after the film's release.  As such, Disney still hopes to maintain the same success with this one, as it did in Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland, Oz: the Great and Powerful, and of course Frozen. Something tells me, it will have just as cynical and realistic a plot as Maleficent, which is a new representation that is really selling for Disney at the moment.
