Terry Davis of the Florida Boys Gospel Quartet Dies in Dothan accident

Terry Davis, tenor for gospel quartet The Florida Boys in the 80s, has died March 7th after a one-vehicle accident on Hodgesville Road. Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said Davis, 55, appeared to have had a medical event which caused him to run off the road and strike a nearby house. The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Patrol.
Davis was a tenor with the The Florida Boys in the early 80s. Davis sung tenor on one of the decades-old quartet's biggest hits, "When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind." In recent years, Davis worked as a transitional counselor at a prison in Graceville, Fla.Friends and family members described Davis as a funny, kind man who believed in God and in his fellow man.
Cindy Davis, Davis' wife, said her husband was dedicated to his work in helping inmates at the prison in Graceville nearing the end of their sentences prepare for life on the outside."He loved them and they loved him," she said.
Tara Estes, a local English instructor at Wallace Community College, said, "He will forever be remembered for his love and service to God, his devotion to his family, and his loyalty to his friends. Heaven must have needed a lead tenor."
Rueben Poole, a Dothan firefighter, had this to say about his deceased friend, "Terry knew the true meaning of grace and forgiveness. He knew that he was a sinner, and that he had no right to judge others just because they may sin differently than he. I'm going to miss Terry and our talks. And I am certainly a better man for knowing him."
