Eddie Montgomery's Son Hunter Dies of Drug Overdose
Nineteen-year-old Hunter Montgomery, the youngest of Eddie Montgomery's four children with his ex-wife, Tracy, was involved in an unspecified accident late last week and he passed away on Sunday (Sept. 27). Eddie Montgomery is one half of the country music duo Montgomery Gentry.
"My son Hunter went to heaven today," Eddie Montgomery says in a statement released on Sunday (Sept. 27). "I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye."
Now Tracy, Hunter's mother, opens up and talks about why her son died. "When a family asks for privacy, there is a reason. Grieving the loss of a child is the most heart-wrenching experience any parent can imagine. It defies description," Nunan writes. "Since the media refuses to respect our request for privacy, I'm taking another route in hope that we might get some peace for our grieving and, more important, in hope that Hunter's story might help others.
"Our son died of an overdose. We believe it was accidental and will continue to believe that," she continues. "We know that he needed help. Maybe Hunter's - and our family's - pain will help another family avoid this.
"Not a day will go by without our missing him," Nunan concludes. "Now that your curiosity is satisfied, please have the respect to stop hounding us. Instead, take our story and use it to help others."
A visitation and funeral services are scheduled for Thursday (Oct. 1) in Nicholasville, Ky. Memorial donations may be made to Room in the Inn, an organization dedicated to helping Nashville's homeless population, or to a college fund set up for his son Bennett.
