Pop songsress Katy Perry now headlines world tours and she can fill up stadiums. Prior to her explosive fame starting with "I Kiss a Girl (And I Liked It)," the singer had even recorded a Christian album entitled "Katy Hudson." The daughter of an evangelical pastor, she first entered the music industry as a Christian singer-songwriter. One of her early TV appearances was with Christian alt-metal band P.O.D. on The Tonight Show in 2006.
Going viral now on the internet is that Katy Perry served as a backup singer in P.O.D.'s song "Goodbye for Now" (see below). Her powerhouse voice served as a counter to Sonny Sandoval's grit on the track's bridge.
But Perry has never been a backing singer for P.O.D.. As guitarist Marcos Curiel said in a statement to Rolling Stone, "This is revisionist history and disrespectful to our girl Katy who was NEVER a backup singer...We invited her to participate on our record as she was and is still is one of the few pop artists with strong musicianship roots."
