Point of Grace Receives Third Grammy Nomination
CCM' popular trio Point of Grace (Shelley Breen, Denise Jones and Leigh Cappillino)'s Directions Home (Songs We Love, Songs You Know), is nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Roots Gospel Album (Category 40). Point of Grace has career sales of over 8 million albums, alongside 27 No. 1 songs at radio, 24 of which were consecutive.
"We are so honored and excited to be nominated for a GRAMMY this year in the Roots Gospel Album category!" shared Point of Grace's Shelley Breen. "We really have to credit Andy Leftwich for co-producing something we are incredibly proud of. This is our third nomination over the course of our 25 year career - we haven't had a win yet - here's hoping the third time's a charm!"
Directions Home is the first album Point of Grace co-produced, alongside Andy Leftwich, who is also Ricky Skaggs' fiddle player and a member of the GRAMMY® Award-winning ensemble, Kentucky Thunder.
"Directions Home has so many layers of meaning for us," shares Shelley Breen. "It represents our past, where we are now, and most importantly, where we are ultimately going - home. Our hope for this project is that people will find encouragement in the lyrics, that they will feel emotions that will bring them great memories and a touch of nostalgia, but the higher purpose of everything on this record is to point listeners to the cross of Christ, which is the only way to truly find our way home."
It is also the group's first album primarily comprised of cover songs, including well-known hits like Carrie Underwood's "Something in the Water," Phillip Phillips' "Home" and Trace Adkins' "You're Gonna Miss This," among others. Special appearances by superstars Vince Gill and Ricky Skaggs further set this album apart from many of their previous projects, while widening their reach into the country music world.
The 10-song album is a collection of tunes that hold special meaning for the members of Point of Grace. "Like 'Friend of a Wounded Heart' ...Wayne Watson was the original artist, and he was the first artist who invited Point of Grace out on tour. That was a great song for us to do."
"The Climb" carries lyrics that are meaningful to Cappillino and Breen, who both have daughters who are 13. "That song is a wonderful message. We fell in love with what it said all by itself," Cappillino said.
Shelley Breen, Denise Jones and Leigh Cappillino will perform at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at First Woodway with the second half of the concert including the church's choir. It is the second big-name Christmastime performer in as many years for the Woodway church, which welcomed Steven Curtis Chapman in 2014.
