The Voice's Shelby Brown's "Go Rest High on That Mountain" Enters Billboard's Christian Chart at #2

Following in the footsteps of fellow contestant Jordan Smith, the Voice's Shelby Brown's "Go Rest High on That Mountain" enters the Billboard Christian Songs chart at #2. Brown from Team Adam first sang 'Go Rest High on That Mountain' on The Voice Season 9 Top 10 Live Shows on Monday, November 30, 2015.
After her dynamic performances, the judges and audience were impressed. "This was honestly your best performance. It's like you connected of the person whoever wrote that song. This was easily you're best moment on the show," said Pharrell Williams.
"You've always been the singer whose potential always astonished me. Every single week you get better and better," said Adam Levine.
Shelby got her start singing karaoke with her dad at a local bowling alley when she was 11 years old. From there, she took vocal lessons, joined her high school choir and participated in school talent shows. Last year, she decided to focus on music full-time and started homeschooling. Because she lives in a small town with a very limited music scene, her main outlet is still the bowling alley where she performs. Though she loves the people there, she needs The Voice to take her career to the next level.
Watch her performance on the video below.
"Go Rest High on That Mountain" was originally written and recorded by Amy Grant's husband and country music veteran Vince Gill. It was released in August 1995 as the sixth single from his album When Love Finds You. It is a eulogic ballad. Gill began writing the song following the death of country music superstar Keith Whitley, who died in 1989. Gill did not finish the song until a few years later following the death of his older brother Bob, in 1993, of a heart attack. Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless sang background vocals on the record.
The song won the CMA's Song of the Year award in 1996 and a BMI Most-Performed Song award in 1997. It also received two Grammy Awards for Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song in the 38th Grammy Awards. The single reached #14 on the Country Singles chart in 1995.
On May 2, 2013 at the George Jones funeral in the Opry hall with Patty Loveless, he was too emotional to sing some of the words of this song, but completed the duet by focusing on the guitar. He underlined this duet by stating he always was aware of a 'special anointing' in his duets with Loveless.
