Jordan Smith & David Foster Perform "You Are so Beautiful" at the People's Choice Awards
Winner of season 9's The Voice Jordan Smith continues to charm when he took the stage at the People's Choice Awards stage last night. Smith gave a stirring version of "You Are So Beautiful," a power ballad first recorded by the late great Joe Cocker.
16-time Grammy winner David Foster and producer of Whitney Houston's immortal #1 hit "I Will Always Love You" accompanied Smith on piano. The two paired for a poignant take on the classic, with Smith's tender vocals mesmerizing the crowd.
Last week, Smith, who is a committed Christian worshipping at a local Church of God, had 3 Top 10 hits on Billboard's Christian Song chart, a fleet never accomplished before.
Smith's Christmas song "Mary Did You Know" debuted at #1. "Mary" joined Smith's covers of "Hallelujah" (No. 2) and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" (No. 8) to give him a trio of titles in the top 10. Two week ago, he made chart history as the first act to have the Nos. 1 and 2 songs in the same week when "Hallelujah" was at the top with "Great" at #2. Smith is just the third (and first since 2009) to occupy three places in the top 10. The last act to manage the latter feat was Casting Crowns on Jan. 1, 2009.
According to Billboard, Smith's cover of "Mary, Did You Know" also arrived atop the the Digital Songs chart with 161,000 downloads sold in the week ending Dec. 17, according to Nielsen Music. He also dotted the list with entries at No. 6 ("Climb Every Mountain;" 67,000) and No. 11 ("God Only Knows," with Adam Levine; 50,000).
