Blake Shelton Makes His Debut on Billboard's Christian Chart

Country music superstar Blake Shelton makes his first appearance on Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart with the hymn-like single "Savior's Shadow." The song is taken from his album If I'm Honest (May 20). "Savior's Shadow" bows at No. 17. Selling 7,000 in its opening week, it arrives on Christian Digital Songs at No. 4 (and Country Digital Songs at No. 43).
"Savior's Shadow" is about turning to Jesus for comfort and strength during a trying time. "Though the devil try to break me / My sweet Jesus won't forsake me / When I'm in my Savior's shadow / Where I'm supposed to be," Blake Shelton sings.
As Billboard points out, Blake Shelton's song of praise is "outside of his usual marketing channels." However, it's turning out to be a big hit for the mainstream country star.
Blake tweeted that most of the song's lyrics came to him last summer in a dream, and he wrote down all of the words that he could remember upon waking up. According to Taste of Country, songwriters Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall helped Blake complete the gospel song, and it will be one of the tunes included on his May 20 album, If I'm Honest.
