Watch Craig Campbell Perform His Song About the Afterlife "Outskirts of Heaven" on the Today Show

Singer-songwriter Craig Campbell has recorded one of his most spiritual songs in "Outskirts of Heaven." Few songs these days address the afterlife with such sweetness and clarity as his tune written by the singer and David Turnbull. Campbell made his first-ever appearance on the Today show July 19th, performing his new song "Outskirts of Heaven."
The song will appear on the Georgia native's forthcoming album for Red Bow Records, which is currently being recorded. Campbell notes that he'll soon be heading out on his first USO tour, including stops in Florida and Washington. Here are some of the lyrics:
My grandpa taught me
about buck knives and shotguns,
how to cast an old Zebco,
how to work a stick shift.
He taught me the Bible,
about all twelve disciples
and he made sure that I know
there's life after this
with pearly gates,
streets of gold,
he said if I just believe,
that's where I'll go.
But Lord when I die,
I wanna live on the outskirts of heaven
where there's dirt roads for miles,
hay in the fields
and fish in the river.
Where there's dogwood trees, and honeybees,
and blue skies and green grass forever.
Lord when I die, I wanna live
on the outskirts of Heaven.
On December 1, 2014, Campbell announced he had signed with Red Bow Records. The album's first single, "Tomorrow Tonight", was released to country radio on May 19, 2015 and it reached a peak of #39 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. The album's second single, "Outskirts of Heaven", was released to radio in April 2016.
