'The Voice' NBC Adding No Doubt's Gwen Stefani & Pharrell Williams Joining Hit Show for Season 7
NBC's hit singing competition show "The Voice" is going to be bringing new start talent to the big red coaches chairs for next season (Season 7). It was announced a few weeks back that producer/artist/songwriter, Pharrell Williams, will be joining the team for Season 7 to fill the spot of Ceelo who announced that he will not be returning to the show earlier this year.
Now, we have breaking news that Gwen Stefani, lead singer of No Doubt and solo success, will be filling the big shoes of Christina Aguilera for Season 7. Christina revealed she was pregnant earlier this year with fiancé Matt Rutler and she had to slow her schedule down for this year. NBC reportedly wanted Christina to stay on during her pregnancy, but she decided it would be too much for her to juggle. Christina is expected to return for the following season (Season 8), which airs in spring 2015.
Gwen surprised fans at Coachella festival in California last Saturday, when she hit the stage in the middle of Pharrell's cameo-laden Main Stage set for a surprise performance of "Hollaback Girl". "I have not seen her in nine months. Look how amazing the queen looks as she is making her arrival back to the music industry!" At the time, it seemed like he was merely hinting at Gwen's solo return (she hasn't released an album under her own name since 2006's "The Sweet Escape"). But now it appears that Pharrell was referring not just to possible new Gwen music, but to a whole new TV career for the pop star.
Gwen does have some experience on a television singing show as she was a mentor on "American Idol's" sixth season in 2007. She seemed comfortable, gave solid advice and seemed to take the role seriously. So joining "The Voice" should be a natural fit for her.
"The Voice" has been able to keep up the success of the show through judging changes over the years with Shakira filling in two seasons for Christina Aguilera and Usher filling in for Ceelo. The judges chemistry is a big part of the success of the NBC reality show.
