Hear Christina Grimmie's Inspiring New Song 'Invisible'
The family of the late Christina Grimmie has released the first posthumous single less than a year after the singer died. Grimmie was a much loved contestant of The Voice and a very vocal Christian. The new single "Invisible" is an inspirational dance track that is the first song released off her posthomous album to be released later this year.
"I won't be diminished / Eclipsed or hidden / You're gonna see my light blaze back to life like a phoenix rise," Grimmie sings on the upbeat dance song.
Proceeds from "Invisible" will go towards establishing a foundation named after Grimmie, although the focus of that effort is still under discussion. "She was super passionate about breast cancer awareness, animal safety, anti-bullying. There are so many things. So, we are just figuring out what's the best way to allocate the funds," her brother Marcus Grimmie said.
On June 10, 2016, Grimmie was shot by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl while she signed autographs following her performance with Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida. Loibl then fatally shot himself after being tackled by Grimmie's brother Marcus. Grimmie was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition; she died on June 11.
No motive has been discerned yet as to why Loibl shot the singer. The Orlando Police Department reported that Loibl did not have an arrest record in his home county, and did not appear to know Grimmie personally. A department spokesman said Loibl had traveled from another city in Florida "apparently to commit this crime," bringing with him two handguns, two extra magazines full of ammunition, and a hunting knife.
Grimmie has been known for her outspoken Christian faith. T.J. Wilkins, another Voice competitor, wrote: "What I'll remember most about you is our conversation about faith and the love of Christ."
That faith came out in Grimmie's own tweets, too, including this one from 2013, which her fans are sharing anew in light of her tragic death: "Sometimes God allows terrible things to happen in your life and you don't know why. But that doesn't mean you should stop trusting Him."
Grimmie has been known for her participation in the NBC singing competition The Voice and for her covers of hit songs by contemporary pop musicians. In June 2011, she released her debut EP, Find Me. Her studio album With Love was released in 2013. A second EP, Side A, was released in 2016.
