Natalie Cole's Son, Robert Yancey, Dead at 39

Twenty months after Natalie Cole's death, her only son Robert Yancey passed away. Yancey was found dead inside his San Fernando Valley apartment on Monday by a friend who was concerned about the fact that he had not heard from the young man for a few days. Yancey died of an apparent heart attack. He was 39 years-old.
DailyMail.com reports that Yancey had been working on a documentary about his mother at the time of his death, adding that he still seemed deeply upset about losing Cole just this past May. 'He told me he was very depressed about his mother's passing, saying she was the best mom in the world and he loved her deeply and he didn't want her legacy to fade away,' explains the source.
'He wanted to remind people of how great Nat and his mom were. He felt they were underrepresented in the music world.'
Yancey was born to Cole and her first husband, Marvin Yancey, a former member of the R&B group The Independents whom she wed in 1976. Cole and Yancey divorced in 1980, and he died of a heart attack at 34 in 1985.
Yancey was a Christian who loves Gospel music. In a Thanksgiving post from 2013 that he shared on Facebook, Yancey wrote: 'Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! How I thank God for for waking me up this morning to see another thanksgiving!
'As we are soon coming to the close of another year, let us be grateful for the things he has done this year!!! but let us also not forget the less fortunate. Keep them close to your heart! To all my friends and family and everyone around the world, I love all of you very much!
'This is the day that The Lord had truly made! Let us Rejoice and be Exceedingly Glad in it!!'
