Selena Gomez Talks "Life or Death" Kidney Transplant in Today Interview

Selena Gomez made an appearance at the Today show for a new interview about undergoing kidney transplant this year, and how much she appreciated having her best friend Francia Raisa to be her donor.
"My kidneys were just done," she said in a preview for the interview, which is scheduled to air this Monday. "That was it and I didn't want to ask a single person in my life. And she volunteered and did it."
"You feel that Francia saved your life,” “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie told the former Disney star.
To this, Gomez agreed and responded, seemingly emotional with tears in her eyes. "I guess I got to the point where it was really, kind of, life or death,” she said. The “Same Old Love” crooner announced over the summer that she had undergone surgery for a kidney transplant because of her lupus diagnosis, which she revealed in 2015.
"It was what I needed to do for my overall health," she wrote as caption for multiple photos shared on Instagram during the time.
"I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."
One of the images that Gomez posted on the photo-sharing app was of her and Raisa as they held hands while wearing hospital gowns, lying in adjoining hospital beds. A longtime close friend of Gomez, Raisa is best known for appearing in ABC Family’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
"She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me," Gomez wrote. "I am incredibly blessed."
Moreover, in a previous post, the “Spring Breakers” actress reached out to her fans, who noticed that there might be a major concern when she was not actively promoting her music online.
“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” Gomez’s caption read.
The full interview with Gomez is set to air on October 30 and 31 on “The Today Show.”
