Pornography's Intrusion in Todays Culture

Pornography's Intrusion in Todays Culture
A child must be 21 to get an alcoholic drink, but there is no age limit to accessing pornography. When your teen goes to college and the dormitory WIFI has no filtering system, he/she is likely to be exposed frequently to hard-core porn.
As the group Enough is Enough reports, pornography constitutes more than one-third of the internet industry and earns its purveyors more than $3000 per second. Pornography web-sites receive more visitors monthly than Twitter, Netflix, and Amazon combined. Most teenagers watch porn on line, and one survey of 16-20 year olds found nearly one out of four males and one out of ten females admitted they tried and failed to kick the habit. "Many young men expect dates and wives to perform as do actresses in the 11,000 porn films shot each year."
The Witherspoon Institute conference research (proceedings published as The Social Costs of Pornography) showed that two-thirds of 18-to-34-year-old men visit porn sites regularly. "Most divorces involve one partner compulsively using pornography."
Legislation to protect children under 18 from exploitation by pornographers was passed during the 1980's by Congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan. A commission was appointed to investigate pornography. However, the press belittled its serious findings, and the Supreme Court took very little action also.
Thus, in 2014, "pornography is a huge problem not only among adults but among children and teenagers as well." A big step for todays parents is opening up the discussion with their children. This can be hard to do, but this will help the children understand the importance and consequences of getting hooked on such material.
