Aretha Franklin's Funeral Service will Reflect Her Gospel Roots
Last Thursday, the Queen of soul, Aretha Franklin passed away. She died of pancreatic cancer at age 76. Her funeral service will be held in Detroit on Aug. 31.
The service will reflect Franklin's strong gospel roots. Among the gospel stars performing will be Fantasia, Shirley Caesar, Marvin Sapp and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. The Aretha Franklin Choir and the Aretha Franklin Celebration Choir are also on the program. The service will be held at Greater Grace Temple.
Other superstars slated to perform include Jennifer Hudson, Faith Hill, Stevie Wonder, Ron Isley, Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, Jennifer Holliday and Aretha Franklin's son, Edward Franklin.
The list was provided to The Associated Press by Franklin's longtime publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn. Franklin's funeral will only be open to close friends and family of the late singer.
