The McKameys Reflect on Their Longevity & the Making of their 54th Record
With the most #1 hits in Southern Gospel history, a dedicated following, and a faithful message for the masses, The McKameys' great music and unwavering dedication to the Lord have stood the test of time.
Now, as this legacy artist announces they will no longer be touring full-time after this fall, we are fortunate to look back on their illustrious recording and performing career with a nostalgia that has marked the lives of fans and listeners of Southern Gospel Music.
In a way like no other, The McKameys have brought their anointed message of faithfulness and the power of the Gospel to the world. With The Crown, they deliver that message again, and it is exceptionally special at this point in their decades-long career. The album will be available everywhere May 31 from Horizon Records and is available for pre-order now.
Q. Do you listen to your own albums? Which albums do you listen to most often?
We listen to our CD that we are about to release to help us learn the songs, and then maybe a CD or song here and there to refresh ourselves. Sometimes we just go back and listen to an older CD because it is refreshing to hear the songs that we have lived through!
Q: What's your favorite part in the making of a record? And Why?
New songs are always refreshing and that is exciting. It is also exciting to hear the process of how the music and lyrics come together!
Q: What's the secret of the group's longevity?
Being family, we believe we each have this calling on our lives and we love doing our work as a family and spending time with each other!
Q: What are you most proud about this new album, The Crown?
We feel we have been blessed, once again, with more great songs!
Q: What's the story behind your new song From Dust To Glory?
The song is about every Christian's journey. At creation God created man in His own image, yet in a temporary form (dust) here on earth. We were created to bring God glory and to have a relationship with Him - a purpose revealed. But we also bear the image of our Savior. We have been born into a heavenly family; and one day when life here is complete Jesus will come back to take us with him just as He promised. Our bodies will take on a permanent form (immortality), and we will live with our God and Savior eternally in Heaven - another promise fulfilled!
This song was written as an encouragement, but also to share the hope of the Gospel to those who don't have a personal relationship with God.
Q. You have also included an old hymn on this project. Why did you choose to include this?
We particularly included the old hymn Cleanse Me because this song is where our heart is...we know we are sinners saved by God's grace and we try to live with a clean heart to be able to share the love of God with others!
Q: How do you wish these new songs would impact the lives of your listeners?
Helping people understand about salvation through Jesus alone, and encouraging others in their walk with the Lord.
Q: If you were to pick your favorite song off the new album, which would it be and why?
It depends on what our situation is at the time and what we are needing for that time in our lives. Overall, God Is Good -- always, always, always, God Is Good in everything!
