John Schlitt and Michael Sweet perform Together for the First Time in the US

Legendary rock vocalist, Grammy and Dove Award- winning GMA Hall of Famer John Schlitt, recently joined Michael Sweet, frontman for the multi-platinum selling rock band Stryper, for an intimate acoustic concert event. Although Schlitt and Sweet had previously shared the stage in Brazil in 2017, this concert marked the legendary vocalists' first time performing together in the U.S.
The concert was a benefit for the A. Miriam Jamison Children's Center in Kern County, California, a facility which provides the abused, neglected, and abandoned children of the county with a temporary, safe haven where their needs can be met.
The intimate, unplugged event featured Schlitt, accompanied on acoustic guitar and backing vocals by his Union of Sinners & Saints bandmate Jason Fowler, while Sweet accompanied himself on acoustic guitar. The two great rock vocalists even shared a song together, much to the crowd's delight. The Guitar Center donated a guitar, autographed by both Schlitt and Sweet, which was raffled off, with proceeds benefiting the Jamison Children's Center.
"Getting to share the stage with Michael again was amazing," says Schlitt, "and serving a great organization like the Jamison Children's Center was a privilege. It's just one way of fulfilling Jesus' heart for little children."
"Having John and Michael together for the first time ever in the U.S. was awesome," declares event organizer Heath Kelsey.
"Having them perform a song together was icing on the cake. And Jason Fowler was amazing on the guitar. It was a special time for me. I grew up to Petra and Stryper, and I believe they were the foundation for today's Christian rock bands. On top of all that, it was for a great cause, with proceeds benefiting the Jamison Children's Center. It was a win-win for everyone involved."
Schlitt's performance with Sweet follows on the heels of a busy year, which has seen Schlitt performing at events throughout the country and across the ocean. In addition to his solo concerts, the celebrated vocalist recently joined Head East for a reunion concert and joined the Jay Sekulow Band for performances at various events, including a Darrell Waltrip NASCAR benefit concert and a televised American Center for Law and Justice benefit concert.
He fronted The Union of Sinners and Saints, featuring Billy Smiley (Whiteheart) and Jason Fowler, during the band's Storyteller tour, and joined fellow Petra alum Bob Hartman for a Scandinavian tour, among other events. Schlitt also recently joined more than a dozen classic contemporary Christian music artists, including Phil Keaggy, Jaci Velasquez, Rick Cua, Bruce Carroll, The Katinas, Big Tent Revival, Guardian, Wes King, Al Denson, Tammy Trent, Geoff Moore, Clay Crosse, and others who shared their music and special memories during the CCM United Music, Moments, and Memories concert event held at the historic Franklin Theatre in downtown Franklin, Tennessee.
The beloved vocalist is currently in the studio working on his next solo album. For more information about Schlitt, visit johnwschlitt.com.
