Getting to Know the Dynamic Mother and Son Duo DUPREE

DUPREE has released their brand new single "Up Again." The song speaks about having hope and faith through life's challenges. This song was written for 3 special fans who faced major health issues + losses in their lives. Their steadfast faith and hope inspired us to create songs to help them cling to hope during their hardest moments. The main message of this song is that Jesus will always be with you through the healing process, so we can find joy through the journey.
DUPREE is a Christian contemporary mother-son duo comprised of Lauren & Dylan Dupree. Their uplifting, feel-good music has elements of heavy pop, rock, harmonies and Dylan's impressive & soulful guitar riffs.
Q: Thanks for doing this interview with us. Let's start with yourselves: what is DUPREE?
DUPREE is a mother/son Christian duo based out of Orlando, Florida. Everyone wants to belong, so we are part of a family band that brings everyone together through our music. The heart of our message is inclusion. You Belong. You Matter.
Q: It's not very common to have a mother and son duo, what are some of the advantages and disadvantages of being a mother and son duo?
Great question! The main advantage is that we know each other so well, we are comfortable with being forthcoming with each other especially when writing and producing together. This process actually brings our quality to a whole new level since we don't worry about offending each other's input. Our synergy with our unique tones help our harmonies and sound to blend seamlessly. It's all in the family!
Disadvantage? Same as the advantage: we know each other so well! Haha. You know how families are...we are the same as everyone else, and people relate to that, young & old. However, we try to add a sprinkle of humor to our day when things get hectic. We believe God has a great sense of humor - after all, He made us in His image!
Q: You were also known as Good Reception at one time, why did you decide to change your name?
Yes, that was a hard decision since we were gaining fans via name recognition. However, our amazing new team, headed by Wisdom Moon, suggested we change our band name to better reflect who we are as a family band.
Q: How would you describe your style of music?
Uplifting Pop/rock/guitar centric with soulful harmonies.
Q: You have just released a brand new single "Up Again." Tell us how did the song come about?
This song was written for 3 special fans who faced major health issues or losses in their lives. Their steadfast faith and hope inspired us to write "Up Again." Through some of their hardest moments, they reached out to us to let us know they found joy through the journey listening to our music. It is humbling and rewarding to know we had a part in helping them through recovery to "reignite the light"- as reflected in our lyrics from the song.
Q: Do you normally write your own music? What inspires you to write?
Yes, we write all our own music. The songs come to us in different ways. Sometimes, God speaks directly to us and we can't get the song written fast enough because the Holy Spirit puts fire inside us to create something bigger than us.
Other times, it can come from experiences in our own lives, and it is cathartic for us to write about it, knowing it will also help others. But God always has a big part in giving us what He wants us to create. After all, He gave us this talent for a reason, and we want hear what He says to do His will and serve.
Q: Are you currently working on a possible new album? If so, give us a sneak peak of what we can expect from the new record.
Yes! We have so many songs in the pipeline it's difficult to choose what to do first. Currently, we have several singles coming out in the very near future and we're working hard in the studio to produce/record more for our fans.
Sneak peek: the next single is about God's "Perfect Love" for us (hint hint!) This song is focused on bringing hope, joy, and inclusion to those who may be feeling like they don't belong or feel misunderstood.
Q: Are you currently performing live? What can listeners expect when they see you perform live?
Currently, we are not touring; however, that's our next goal! We are currently available for individual shows for churches/youth groups, etc. We also just filmed a music video for "Up Again" in Nashville. It has a stage performance feel so you can get an idea of the energy and passion we bring with our shows!!
Expect a fun, upbeat vibe from our live performances mixed with Dylan's energetic guitar solos from his new left-handed Lincoln Brewster inspired electric guitar. Lincoln, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Johnson are his influences, and you'll hear all that in Dylan's style...and guitar enthusiasts will be entertained, too!
Most importantly, we want to bring lots of joy and fun while making everyone feel connected to each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. We represent the Christian family dynamic. We're all family. You Belong! You Matter! You Rock!
