Taylor Swift Plays 'Important' Role New Movie 'The Giver' Releasing August 2014 w/ Meryl Streep & Katie Holmes, Watch New Trailer Here (VIDEO)
Taylor Swift has her first movie role in the upcoming film, The Giver that is just over a month away from it's late Summer release (August 15th, 2014). Swift will play the role of Rosemary, the Giver's daughter, in Phillip Noyce's adaptation of the 1993 young adult novel.
The Giver Author Lois Lowry recently spoke with MTV News about Taylor's role in the movie. "The role in the movie is still a small role, but it's a crucial and very important one," Lois told "I have a copy of the movie in its final stages here on my computer, and I had my two grandsons here for the Fourth of July weekend - they're 13 and 15 ,and I showed it to them-probably against the rules-anyways, I asked them was there anything special that they liked best and one of them selected the scene with Taylor Swift."
She added, "I don't think because of Taylor Swift particularly, but because the elements of that particular scene he found very gripping. So her role in the movie is much the same in the book, except in the book she's only remembered... And in the movie you can see the memory of her. She appears in, I don't know the technical term would be, but you can see her. And it's very compelling."
When asked if Swift performs in the movie, Lois said, "I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you that! I will tell you, she does not sing. I don't know if it would be an appropriate thing for her to sing. It would've turned the movie into a musical, which it isn't! So no, no singing."
The new movie The Giver released their first full trailer in March in preparation for the Summer 2014 release. The upcoming film stars Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan is based on Lois Lowry's beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. It is also the big screen acting debut of country/pop music superstar, Taylor Swift.
The haunting story of The Giver centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.
The Giver is directed by Phil Noyce, written by Michael Mitnick and made by the studio The Weinstein Company. Filming began on October 7, 2013 in Cape Town, South Africa. Meryl Streep had some of her scenes shot in England, where she also filmed Rob Marshall's Into the Woods, before doing additional filming two months later in Cape Town. The Giver is set to release to theaters on August 15, 2014. Will you go to the movies to see it?
