Jaci Velasquez and Evan Craft Join My Faith Votes to Mobilize Hispanic Christians to Vote
Contemporary Christian singers Jaci Valesquez and Evan Craft have joined My Faith Votes - a nonpartisan, faith-based organization - as spokespeople to encourage members of the Hispanic Christian community to vote in the upcoming elections.
Multi-platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated artist Jaci Velasquez is a contemporary Christian and Latin pop singer and actress best known for her Spanish-language album Mi Corazón and co-hosting the Family Friendly Morning Show with Doug Griffin.
"My husband and I have two amazing boys that are our pride and joy. We long to see a bright future for them and all of the children growing up in the U.S. today," Velasquez said. "We have opportunities each day to make a difference in that future, to honor God and to do good. This November we have the specific opportunity to vote. When we choose to vote in a way that most honors God, we can make a difference."
Velasquez is joined by singer-songwriter Evan Craft. Originating from Southern California, Evan Craft is an American performer with a passion for Latin America and missions. This passion motivated him to learn Spanish while working in Spain, Mexico and Costa Rica. His album Yo Soy Segundo (I Am Second) earned the title of #1 Latin Christian Album in the United States. Since then, Evan has been performing around the world and creating music in English and Spanish. His most recent single, "Be Alright," with Redimi2 and Danny Gokey, debuted at no. 42 on Billboard's "Hot 100 Christian Songs" chart. His upcoming full-length album titled "Desesperado" is set for release February 2021.
"One of my greatest joys is using my artistry to promote my ministry. For years I have had the blessing and privilege of ministering to Latin and Spanish communities through music," Craft said. "Art placed in the hands of God has the capacity to change hearts and lives and the world through intentional engagement and loving our neighbors. This is why I am excited to join forces with My Faith Votes to help Spanish-speaking Christians think about their faith and its role in the public square and realize that their votes matter."
Faith plays a significant role within the Hispanic community, with 76% of Hispanic Americans identifying as Christian. As of 2020, eligible Hispanic voter numbers will reach 32 million, exceeding the number of eligible Black voters. Yet in the last presidential election, the majority of Hispanic citizens did not vote. Hispanic voter turnout was 47.6% in 2016.
My Faith Votes offers free resources for individuals, churches and corporations interested in equipping Christians to vote in every election. These resources include English and Spanish versions of voter guides and party platform comparisons, as well as guides and downloadable content necessary for hosting a voter registration drive through Our Church Votes and Our Workplace Votes.
