“The Winds of Winter” News, Rumors and Spoilers: George R.R. Martin Won’t Die Before Finishing the Book

George R.R. Martin has no intention of dying before finishing "The Winds of Winter," the much anticipated sixth installment in his "A Song of Fire and Ice" seven-book fantasy epic which until now still has no definite release date. Or at least, that was what the 65-year old author want conveyed through Tages-Anzeiger, a Swiss daily news site, in a recorded interview when asked about such morbid, tactless subject. A translation of what he said reads, "I feel the speculation about my age and my health as abusive. To all those who think this way: You piss off!" Then on the screen, he flashed the middle finger for emphasis.
Fans speculate the book may be ready by 2017, assuming of course that Martin can continue with his current pace of 250-300 words per day production. The author estimates that "The Winds of Winter" along with "A Dream of Spring," the tentative title of the final volume in his epic saga, will both be very big books of about 1,500 manuscript pages each. He himself has also dropped hints and teasers on what fans may expect from his works-in-progress for the "A Song of Fire and Ice" saga.
In an exclusive interview with Today in Travel, he said, "Obviously, I'm going to continue the story. There were a lot of cliffhangers at the end of "A Dance with Dragons." Those will be resolved very early. I'm going to open with the two big battles that I was building up to, the battle in the ice and the battle at Mereen - the battle of Slaver's Bay. And then take it from there." In a later talk with Entertainment Weekly about his forthcoming book, Martin added more details. Said he, "We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages." Tyrion will also along the way cross path with Daenerys. He said, "Well, Tyrion and Dany will intersect, in a way, but for much of the book they're still apart. They both have large roles to play here. Tyrion has decided that he would actually like to live, for one thing, which he wasn't entirely sure of during the last book, and he's now working toward that end - if he can survive the battle that's breaking out all around him. And Dany has embraced her heritage as a Targaryen and embraced the Targaryen words. So they're both coming home."
According to his own "Not A Blog" blog site, Martin will be at this week's Comicon in San Diego. He will be there to sign autographs, join in the panel discussions and give out interviews. He will also be judging at a costume contest sponsored by Courtyard Marriot.
