Mitch Wong Responds to the Supreme Court Abortion Ruling

Australian-born, Nashville-based worship leader, songwriter and musician Mitch Wong offers a heartfelt and wise response to the Supreme Court abortion ruling. On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled to overturn the decision of Roe v. Wade concluding that there is no constitutional right to abortion.
Wong writes, "What a big day. I am so grateful for what this decision represents. For me, it shouldn't be seen as a victory to be held over the heads of those who disagree. Rather, it's a declaration of the sanctity of life. Legal decisions have the power to sway cultural belief. I think the debate is so fierce today because we have become accustomed to the idea Roe vs Wade put forward.
"For 49 years the idea has grown to such a degree that we now live in a reality where politicians are presenting bills to not only allow for the termination of babies at full term, but also to discriminalise the killing of babies up to 28 days old (OUTSIDE the womb).
"I hope this decision makes people in future and on both sides of the debate step back and consider what a human life is worth.
"Most importantly, it is CRUCIAL that today's decision leads to continued change. We need to invest in the care and ongoing support of pregnant women and mothers, as well as the adoption of babies whose mother either don't want to or aren't ready to raise children. It's a desperate need, so today is definitely a wake-up call, especially for the church."
Having recently relocated to Nashville with his wife Steph, Wong continues to write music and has written for artists including Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech, Kari Jobe, Matt Redman, Kim Walker-Smith, Cody Carnes, Jesus Culture, Planetshakers, David & Nicole Binion, Paul Baloche and Lincoln Brewster. Songs of his include: "Impact" (Chris Tomlin), "Hymn of Surrender" (Matt Redman), "While I Wait" (Lincoln Brewster), "This Is Our Time" (Planetshakers), "Behold Him" (Paul Baloche), and "Believe For It" (CeCe Winans).
In addition to his music and ministry, Mitch is a graduate of the University of Melbourne's School of Law. Follow him on Instagram @mitchwongmusic.
