Daniel Radcliffe's new movie “Horns” is wrenching, vulnerable and emotionally naked
"Horns" the dark fantasy thriller which premiered during the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, will finally be shown in US and UK theaters on Halloween, October 31. Directed by Alexandre Aja based on Joel Hill's novel, it tells the story of Ignatius 'Ig' Perrish, a young relatively well-off young man whose life was shattered and turned inside out by the rape and murder of his sweetheart Merrin Williams. He was the only suspect in the crime. While he was never proven guilty, neither was he cleared. In the court of public opinion, he used his parent's wealth and influence to get himself off the hook. He became a pariah in the community. He became increasingly despondent. He could have gotten a mental breakdown. Instead, he found himself growing a pair of horns. He also developed a strange power to control other people, powers he will use to find his true love's rapist and killer.
The film stars Daniel Radcliffe of 'Harry Potter' fame as 'Ig.' On Radclife's reprisal of the character, author Joel Hill said it is a "wrenching, vulnerable, emotionally naked performance that isn't like anything he's ever done on screen before. He is such a wonderful Ig Perrish."
Others in the cast include Juno Temple as "Merrin Williams," James Remar, Sabrina Carpenter, Heather Graham, Kelli Garner, David Morse, Joe Anderson, Max Minghella, Kathleen Quinlan, Alex Zahara, Michael Adamwaite, Desiree Zurowski, and Jared Ager-Foster. The role of 'Ig' was originally intended for Shia LaBeouf, but he declined.
The one-minute teaser trailer which was uploaded to social media sites starts with a voice over of people accusing 'Ig' for the rape and murder of his girlfriend over a scene showing a mob outside his house with a sign that says, "You will burn in Hell!" We are also given quick shots of 'Merrin,' followed by shots of a crying 'Ig.' This is followed by an audio of 'Merrin' screaming over a shot of a newspaper in the trash with a large, bold caption reading, "Is This the Face of the Devil?"over the picture of 'Ig' in the headline. Finally, we see a shot of 'Ig' sitting with a snake wrapped over his shoulder. In the background, we hear Radcliffe's voice saying, "No one is born evil, but sometimes when you go through Hell, the only way out is to walk deeper into the fire."
