Paramount Pictures announced that the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible film franchise will be available in theaters on December 25, 2015, or four years after the release of the blockbuster hit Ghost Protocol, according to Screen Rant. Tom Cruise will return to produce as well as reprise the role of IMF agent and main movie protagonist Ethan Hunt.
Mission: Impossible 5 will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie based on a screenplay written by Drew Pearce. Production is set to start late this year in London. The permit to use the House of Parliament for the shooting has reportedly already been approved. Vienna is reportedly another site which will be used in the filming. The Mission: Impossible franchise is known for its use of exotic settings as backdrop for spectacular action scenes.
Rebecca Ferguson will play the female lead in Mission: Impossible 5. Jeremy Renner has also already confirmed that he will be returning to reprise his role as William Brandt. Meanwhile, Alec Baldwin is still in talks with studio bosses to play the head of CIA in the fifth installment in the franchise.
The Mission: Impossible film franchise series started in 1996 with Brian De Palma directing the first movie. The fourth in the series, Ghost Protocol, was the most critically acclaimed and most commercially successful in the series. The movie franchise is based on the popular television series of the same name created by Bruce Geller which aired from 1966 to 1973 and again from 1988 to 1990.
