Tasha Layton Finds Freedom to "Lay It Down"

BEC chart-topper Tasha Layton returns today with the deeply personal "Lay It Down," a soul-saturated pop ballad echoing the promise of Jesus: "For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30). Celebrating freedom from fear, worry and strife, "Lay It Down" was written by Layton, Jess Cates and Kalley Heiligenthal, along with GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winner Keith Everette Smith, who also produced the track.
Inspired by Layton's journey of deliverance from depression and despair, "Lay It Down" finds the "Look What You've Done" and "How Far" hitmaker embracing total surrender: "You say Your yoke is easy/You say Your burden's light/You take a soul that's weary/Give comfort every time/And when my heart is heavy/I know without a doubt/There's nothing you won't carry/Oh, Lord, I lay it down."
"There's a lot we're called to lay down in Scripture: our burdens, our pride, our crowns, even laying down to rest; laying down is a theme in the Bible," Layton shares. "When we lay down what we're carrying, our hands are open. And when our hands are free of the things that burden us and weigh us down, we are set apart from the worry and fear that plagues the culture. We're free to take the hand of another or offer help to those around us-to walk in freedom!"
"Sometimes, when you're living through the burdens in life, laying it down doesn't mean that circumstances change," she adds. "What it does mean, however, is that you are trusting God. He offers peace, hope, and strength along the way as you live from a place of trust and rest instead of striving."
Layton is set to share "Lay It Down" and "Never"-her Christian radio single rapidly climbing the charts-with audiences around the country as she steps into the spotlight for her debut headlining tour this fall. With special guest Jeremy Rosado, Layton's "Look What You've Done Tour" kicks off October 26 in Indianapolis and will hit eight cities before concluding November 12 in Columbus, Ohio.
In addition, Layton and acclaimed singer/songwriter Hannah Kerr will be special guests on Big Daddy Weave's upcoming "Heaven Changes Everything Tour." The multi-city fall outing begins September 20 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and will hit Houston; Greenwich, Connecticut; and Rochester, New York, among other stops, before a November 19 finale in New Port Richey, Florida.
Ahead of her high-profile fall tours, Layton will co-headline three special "Worship with Chris Tomlin, We The Kingdom and Tasha Layton" nights in Phoenix; Tucson, Arizona; and Reno, Nevada, next week.
