Alistair Begg Dropped from John MacArthur's Shepherd's Conference

Author and pastor Alistair Begg has been dropped as one of the speakers of Shepherd's Conference, a ministry of Grace Community Church led by Pastor John MacArthur. This follows Begg's controversial advice to a grandmother about attending her LGBT-identified grandson's wedding.
During a recent interview about his new book, Begg recounted talking to a woman whose grandchild was getting married to someone who was transgender. Begg, who opposes same-sex weddings, suggested she go to the wedding and bring a gift. By doing so, she would show her love for her grandchild-even though she did not approve of the wedding.
"Your love for them may catch them off guard, but your absence will simply reinforce the fact that they said, 'These people are what I always thought: judgmental, critical, unprepared to countenance anything,'" the evangelical pastor said. He added that Christians would have to take risks in order to show love to those around them.
An archived version of the site from November shows Begg listed as one of the speakers. This year's Shepherds Conference will take place on March 6-8, sharing around the theme "Truth Triumphs."
This year's keynote speakers include John MacArthur, John Piper, H.B. Charles Jr., Steven J. Lawson, Phil Johnson, Abner Chou, Austin Duncan, Nathan Busenitz, Michael Riccardi, Josiah Grauman, and more.
Begg is also a guest lecturer for the Doctor of Ministry program at The Master's Seminary, which is run in partnership with Grace Community Church and where MacArthur serves as chancellor. It's unknown whether Begg's role at the seminary was also impacted by the decision to drop him from the Shepherd's Conference.
