"We escalatin', up in this b---- like elevators / Of course sometimes s--- goes down when there's a billion dollars on an elevator," Beyonce says in one of the lines of a new remix version of her hit feminist anthem "Flawless" in reference to the infamous fracas at a Standard Hotel elevator between her husband Jay Z and her sister Solange Knowles three months ago.
In that incident which happened May 5, there was video footage leaked to the press which showed Solange hitting and kicking Jay Z seemingly without provocation inside the elevator with Beyonce watching and standing by. While Solange, Jay Z and Beyonce have already released a statement following the fight and telling the public that "they have moved forward as a united family," rumors persist about the state of the singer's marriage. The line in the new "Flawless" remix hints that it may have to do with the business side of things more than with anything else.
The new "Flawless" remix was released this weekend at the flawless.beyonce.com website. The second half of the remix features rapper superstar Nicki Minaj in top form delivering stinging verses like "Like MJ's doctor, they're killing me: propofol. I know they hope I fall, but tell them winning is my motherf-----g protocol" and "You want 'Monster' Nicki in Sri Lanka/I told 'em meet me at the Trump/Ivanka."
Nicky shared with Billboard how she got to collaborate with Beyonce on the surprise new "Flawless" remix. "She sent me a version that she wanted. She told me, 'I want you to be you. I don't want you to hold back." I said, 'You sure?' She said, 'Yeah. I want you to be you and do you." I was actually in New York writing the verse. I recorded the verse in New York and she stopped by the studio. She was such a sweetheart. She was hyping me up, 'Do your thing. Don't hold back. Go in.' I was like, 'Okay. Alright,'" the rapper queen said.
