Syfy's "Sharknado 2: The Second One" which aired last Wednesday garnered 3.9 million viewers and generated one billion Twitter impressions according to a report by Wired. Thanks to the social media, the sequel to the 2013 made-for-TV movie about waterspouts that can lift man-eating sharks out of the ocean and deposit them in unlikely places, claims Syfi, is now more popular than any Game of Thrones episode (including the Red Wedding) and #MileyCyrus on the day of her infamous MTV's 2013 VMAs twerking performance. Having already encored it thrice, Syfi now calls "Sharknado 2: The Second One" their most-watched original movie.

Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, the sequel again stars Tara Reid as 'April Wexler' and Ian Ziering as 'Fin Shepard.' Others in the cast include Vivica A. Fox, Kari Wuhrer, Kelly Osbourne, and Judah Friedlander, plus a host of celebrities making cameo appearances like Judd Hirsh, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Andy Dick, Billy Ray Cyrus, Julie Brown, Robert Hayes, and Biz Markie.

While the setting for the original is in Los Angeles, what happens in Sharknado 2 takes place in New York where April, accompanied by her ex-husband Fin, was scheduled to proceed to promote her book, "How to Survive A Sharknado." While en route, their plane was attacked by the sharknados. The sharks kill the pilots, the crew and most of the passengers. April's hand was bitten off but Fin manages to land the plane safely at the JFK. From that point, the campy disaster scenes escalate. April's had the stump of her amputated hand fitted with a circular chain saw which she brandished about to fight off attacking sharknados.

Syfi has already announced that a Sharknado 3 is in the works and will air next year.
