Jenn Chenoweth's “Light As A Feather (Good Shepherd)” Revels in the Freedom of Surrender

"Light As A Feather (Good Shepherd)," the autobiographical new single from Florida-based singer/songwriter and SEU Worship alum Jenn Chenoweth, is now available on streaming platforms. Penned by Chenoweth and JJ Hasulube and produced by Seth Ready (Seth & Nirva), the track pulses with vibrancy, its carefree, contagious groove celebrating the freedom found in total surrender to Christ.
A synth-driven pop anthem, "Light As A Feather (Good Shepherd)" is Chenoweth's heartfelt expression of gratitude following a challenging season that reshaped her relationship with the Lord. Diagnosed with TMJ disorder in 2019, a condition affecting her mouth and jaw, Chenoweth was riddled with chronic pain as she endured therapies and surgical procedures that threatened her ability to sing.
Her health battle deepened her dependence on God, and Chenoweth ultimately learned to embrace her true identity-not as a singer or songwriter-but as His child. This newfound freedom in Christ stokes a heart of grateful submission as Chenoweth sings, "When the burden's too heavy to hold/You will keep me, You won't let me fold/You wanna do it for me; I'll let You do it for me."
"This song is about letting go of the burdens we are not meant to carry," she states. "A few years ago, I was suffering through chronic jaw pain from TMJ disorder and experienced a deep depression. The only thing that seemed to give me any peace was reading Psalm 23 and Galatians 5. I have known God my whole life, and yet I hadn't really thought of Him as my Shepherd since I was a child. I lived in fear during that long and difficult season, but after taking inventory of my life I realized I had been carrying so many things I didn't need to carry. It was like opening a heavy bag I've held for years and seeing that it was full of bricks."
"'Light As A Feather (Good Shepherd)' starts with a lot of questions because that's where I was-and where I still find myself sometimes," Chenoweth continues. "But as it builds, the Truth and clarity that come from being led and loved by our Good Shepherd give us a freedom and a lightness that isn't dictated by circumstance. This is a peace that passes understanding. When I put down the things Christ already died for, I am met with the freedom that makes me light as a feather."
She concludes, "I hope everyone who hears the song-especially those struggling with anxiety, depression, or chronic pain-will be led to greener pastures and still waters and embrace the freedom that results from surrendering control to the Lord. As sheep, we are dirty and messy, but we don't have to clean up our mess before coming to our Shepherd because Jesus leaves the 99 to rescue the one."
"Light As A Feather (Good Shepherd)" follows Chenoweth's February debut single, "Truth Comes Running," and March's "I'm Learning," as the third track from her inaugural EP, which is slated for release later this year.
