Breanna Nix & John Foster Shocked to Receive Randy Travis’ Blessing on New Duet

Rising country stars Breanna Nix and John Foster were left speechless this week after receiving a heartfelt nod of approval from country music icon Randy Travis on their latest duet-a reimagined version of his classic hit "I Told You So."
While in town for CMA Fest, the American Idol Season 23 standouts-Nix, a fan-favorite finalist, and Foster, the season's runner-up-shared a heartfelt acoustic rendition of the ballad on social media, captioning the post: "Let us know how it sounds to you...should we finish the rest?" The stripped-back performance quickly caught the attention of fans, but nothing could prepare the duo for what happened next.
On June 11, Randy Travis himself responded publicly, urging the young artists to complete the duet. "Finish the rest," Travis wrote. "We'd love to hear it-Carrie [Underwood] and I are listening." The endorsement carries extra weight given the song's legacy: originally released by Travis in 1988, "I Told You So" was famously re-recorded as a duet with Underwood on American Idol in 2009.
"Receiving Randy's blessing means everything," said Nix. "We were just having fun with a classic, and now we're seriously working on finishing it."
Foster added, "Randy and Carrie set the gold standard with that duet. To be encouraged by them-it's a dream."
The pair has already won hearts with their powerful harmonies and emotional chemistry, most recently seen in their viral "Whiskey Lullaby" performance from a children's hospital visit. With this latest co-sign, fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see what's next for this breakout duo.
Nix and Foster are currently in the studio and plan to release the full version of "I Told You So" in the coming weeks.
