Newsboys Dropped From Label Amid Michael Tait Scandal

The iconic Christian rock band Newsboys has been officially dropped from their record label, Capitol Christian Music Group, following a growing scandal involving former lead singer Michael Tait. The controversy stems from multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and substance abuse dating back over a decade.
The announcement was made by lead singer Adam Agee to a sold-out crowd Sunday night at Elevate Music Festival at Highlands Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. "As a result of all this and the things that have come out that (Tait's) done and he's confessed to, we've been dropped from our record label," Agee said, as the crowd groaned in sympathy.
"We've had radio stations pull our music. We've been cancelled by promoters and venues all over the world."
"We asked ourselves, you know, what's next? (We ) prayed about it and we all felt that God wanted us to move forward. And we felt like we still had a ministry and a mission to do," as the crowd applauded.
In a June 2025 investigative report by The Roys Report, several men accused Michael Tait of grooming and non-consensual sexual behavior during his tenure with the band from 2009 to 2014. Tait publicly admitted to struggles with cocaine and alcohol addiction, acknowledging that many of the allegations were "sadly, largely true." He expressed deep remorse for his actions, describing them as sinful and committing to ongoing repentance and healing.
The remaining Newsboys members-Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, and Adam Agee-issued a statement expressing their heartbreak and disappointment over the revelations. They emphasized their support for victims and encouraged others who may have been affected to come forward.
Following the allegations, prominent Christian radio networks including K-LOVE announced plans to reduce or suspend airplay of Newsboys and related projects, impacting the band's presence within the Christian music industry.
Michael Tait resigned from the band earlier this year, citing a desire to seek help and confront his personal struggles. He has since completed a rehabilitation program and remains committed to sobriety and spiritual restoration.
Newsboys continues to perform with Adam Agee as lead vocalist, but the band faces an uncertain future as they work through the repercussions of the scandal.
