And thankfully, BBC and show creators Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatiss seems to have heard the fans' plea. Yes, Sherlock season 4 has been confirmed for an early 2016 release!

The BBC series modern adaptation about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's world famous detective was a hit since its initial release in 2010 and has spanned to three seasons all having three, one-hour long episodes each. Featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson, every single episode not only features the dynamic duo but also revolves around several of Doyle's stories of the detective such as Hound of the Baskervilles and the Reinbach Fall.

What's interesting about Sherlock Season 4 is that several iconic characters will be making returns and cameos such as Irene Adler, Molly, Mrs. Hudson, Mycroft and, the man thought to be dead but is not, Moriarty. Also, it has been hinted by Gatiss and Moffat that Sherlock season 4 not only be will be set a few years after the previous season, it will also be close to what Doyle had written. Freeman hinted things that will happen to Mary, played by lifelong partner Amanda Abbington. If one will remember, John Watson got himself married to Mary Morstan last season. Viewers will also be getting to know Sherlock and Mycroft's other brother, several fan speculations of him being played by none other than Tom Hiddleston.

There has been no concrete news on when the Sherlock season 4 air date will be as of the moment. However, even if there has been no final release date, there are plans that a special would be done for a December release. What a great Christmas gift, BBC!
