Phil Wickham’s “What an Awesome God” Achieves Eighth Week at No. 1 on Christian Airplay

Phil Wickham's rendition of "What an Awesome God" continues to captivate audiences, securing its eighth consecutive week at No. 1 on Billboard's Christian Airplay chart. The track garnered 5.1 million audience impressions during the week of September 19-25, 2025.
Originally penned by Rich Mullins in 1988, Wickham's version introduces new verses co-written with producer Jonathan Lindsey Smith, breathing fresh life into the beloved anthem. This achievement marks Wickham's sixth No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart, surpassing Colton Dixon's "Build a Boat," which held the top spot for seven weeks in 2022-23. Additionally, Fair Trade Services, Wickham's label, holds the all-time record with MercyMe's "Word of God Speak," which led the chart for 23 weeks in 2003.
Released in April 2025, "What an Awesome God" is featured on Wickham's latest album, Song of the Saints, which debuted on September 12, 2025. The album includes other singles such as "The King Is in the Room," "Homesick for Heaven," and "So So Good."
Wickham is currently headlining the multi-artist Air1 Worship Now Tour, bringing his dynamic worship experience to audiences nationwide.
