The iconic group The Family (formerly Kirk Franklin & The Family) has reunited after three decades to release their highly anticipated album Together Forever-a powerful collection of nostalgic hits and brand-new songs that celebrate their legacy and reaffirm their timeless sound.
The multiple GRAMMY®, Stellar, Dove, and NAACP Image Award-winning ensemble changed the course of gospel music in the 1990s with their groundbreaking urban contemporary sound, written and produced by Kirk Franklin. Their 1993 debut album Kirk Franklin & The Family made history, topping Billboard's Gospel chart for over 100 weeks, crossing into R&B, and becoming the first gospel album to sell more than one million copies.
The Family's distinctive harmonies gave voice to beloved classics such as "Conquerors," "Silver and Gold," "Melodies From Heaven," "Now Behold the Lamb," and "Whatcha Lookin' 4."
"I am so glad they are back! Their stories have changed, but their sound is the same," says Autumn Cannon Elmore, Program Director at KGGR Dallas Radio.
The 12 members carrying the mantle into this new era include Kisha Grandy-Lee, Dalon Collins, Carrie "Mousie" Collins, Darrell Blair, Teresa Rucker, Jeannette Johnson, Yolanda McDonald, Ramona Barlow White, "Mother" Shelia Brice, Demetrice Clinkscale, Nelda Washington, and Stephanie Glynn. Their reunion has rekindled lifelong bonds and allowed them to reflect on three decades of pain, power, and purpose.
Together Forever is produced by Ernest J. Lee (David's Dance Music) with Kerry Douglas, CEO of Blacksmoke Music Worldwide, serving as executive producer. Blacksmoke-home to The Family-continues to champion creative collaborations, including The Blacksmoke Collective and the upcoming Blacksmoke Collective Christmas, Vol. 1.
"When they sing together, the richness of their voices is nothing short of amazing," shares producer Ernest J. Lee. "It's an honor to do this-not only because they deserve to be heard again on the big stage, but because this proves that God's plan for your life never expires. No one can kill what God has ordained."
The album opens with a throwback medley of signature favorites-"Conquerors," "Whatcha Lookin' 4," "Melodies From Heaven," and "Silver and Gold." New songs include "Expectancy" featuring Earnest Pugh and "Yeah, Yeah," co-written by Lee and founding member Kisha Grandy-Lee.
The Family's first single, "Jesus (I Love You Lord Today)," has broken into the Top 50 on the Gospel Mediabase Airplay Chart. Its accompanying music video-directed by Shaylen Young of Believe It Network/Grind Zoo Media-captures the group's unmatched anointing and joy, testifying that their passion and power are stronger than ever.
Adding to their triumph, The Family received the 2025 Avidity Lifetime Achievement Award during the 10th Annual Avidity Awards in Dallas, TX-an honor celebrating their pioneering influence and enduring contribution to gospel music.
With Together Forever, The Family continues their divine mission: to honor their legacy, inspire a new generation, and magnify the name of Jesus through the transformative power of Gospel music.
