PS4 Firmware Update Rumors and Review: Sony Likely to Release the Latest Firmware Update for PS4 in Coming Gamescom Event

The PS4  has come up with firmware updates 1.74 and 1.75 and more recently, the 1.8  of which the last two were released last week and the last is allegedly coming this month. The Playstation 4 user interface seems to be the target for the software updates and will receive a revamp as a result. Some of the images which were leaked on the internet  were to showcase a brand new user interface which comes available with user interface among other things as well. The images were found to be faked though. They do look  good and a lot of fans who were hoping they illustrated the real deal hoped the updates do something similar for the firmware.

In any case, the updates for 1.75 and 1,74 are going to feature Blu-ray 3D playback. Similarly, the sound  quality has also been significantly improved for the 1.5x playback with DVD videos. The system messages which were usually displayed at the top left corner of the screen are now going to be featured at the top left corner. As for the firmware, 1.8, the  external hard drive support will be the most anticipated change. There is  rumor going round that the firmware is going to make its debut around the time of Gamescom 2014 which is this month. The 2014 Gamescom event start date is tomorrow for the press and everyone else can get involved from around 14th to the 17th.

It would make sense for Sony to target the release of the firmware update around the time of one of the biggest gaming events which is going to take place in Cologne, Germany.  Last year, the Gamescom event had about 300,000 visitors probably due to the introduction of PS4 and X box One to the market. As such, with Gamescom commencement in less than 24 hours from  now, we should expect an official statement from Sony any time now.
