Conan O'Brien is back on Hollywood's biggest stage tonight as host of the 98th Academy Awards - but his paycheck might shock you.
So How Much Is He Actually Getting Paid?
While no official dollar amount has been confirmed, based on what previous hosts have revealed, O'Brien is likely earning around $15,000 to host the 2026 Oscars.
That number comes straight from a past host. Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the Oscars in 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024, revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he was paid $15,000 - calling it surprisingly little given the months of preparation required. "It's months of work leading up to it. You're getting robbed," Kimmel said.
For context, that's less than what many mid-level corporate speakers earn for a single hour on stage.
But Conan Isn't Hurting for Money
The $15,000 fee is essentially a rounding error for O'Brien. His net worth is estimated at around $200 million, largely built through his decades-long late-night career and the $150 million sale of his media brand Team Coco to SiriusXM in 2022. He currently hosts the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend and stars in the travel series Conan O'Brien Must Go on Max, with Season 2 premiering in May 2025.
So why do it for so little? Simple - the Oscars is the Oscars. The exposure, prestige, and sheer cultural moment are worth more than any paycheck.
A Second Year on the Biggest Stage
O'Brien's return was no surprise after his 2025 debut pulled the show's best U.S. ratings in five years. Tonight he steps back onto the Dolby Theatre stage in Hollywood, with a longer In Memoriam segment and a tribute to the late director Rob Reiner among the evening's highlights.
For fans of faith, there's something quietly admirable about one of Hollywood's most successful entertainers showing up for the love of the craft - not the money.
The 98th Academy Awards airs tonight live on ABC and Hulu at 7 p.m. ET.
