One of the greatest biblical epics ever made is back on the big screen - and this Easter season is the perfect time to experience it.

Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 masterpiece The Ten Commandments is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a special 4K restoration, returning to select theaters across the country just in time for Passover and Easter.

When and Where to Watch

Theatrical screenings run March 31 through April 2 at select locations. Golden Ticket Cinemas is among the participating venues, describing the event as a chance to experience the film's "sweeping scale, unforgettable moments, and timeless storytelling the way it was meant to be seen - in a theater."

Can't make it to theaters? The Ten Commandments will air on ABC on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET. It is also available to rent on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and Fandango at Home.

Why This Film Still Matters

Starring Charlton Heston as Moses and Yul Brynner as Pharaoh, the film tells the story of how Moses turned his back on a life of privilege in Egypt to set his Hebrew people free. It is as spiritually resonant today as it was seven decades ago.

The film grossed more than $65 million at the U.S. box office in 1956 - equivalent to nearly $1 billion today - making it the highest-grossing film of that year and one of the most successful films of the entire decade. When adjusted for inflation, its total box office earnings rival those of Avatar, Star Wars, and Titanic

5 Facts You May Not Know

1. The film runs 3 hours and 39 minutes, required 1,200 storyboards, a 308-page script, 70 speaking roles, and was five years in the making.

2. Charlton Heston landed the role after DeMille saw Michelangelo's statue of Moses and felt it resembled the actor. Heston also voiced God for the burning bush scene.

3. The iconic Red Sea parting was achieved by filming 350,000 gallons of water - thickened with gelatin - in large tanks using wind machines, then playing the footage in reverse.

4. DeMille suffered a heart attack during filming but returned to set three days later against his doctor's orders to finish the movie.

5. Charlton Heston's then-3-month-old son Fraser Heston played baby Moses.

For Christians and families of faith, The Ten Commandments is more than a movie - it is a cinematic retelling of one of Scripture's most foundational stories, the miraculous deliverance of God's people from bondage. Seventy years later, that story hasn't lost a single ounce of its power.
