The Missouri mother of three delivered what judges called "resurrection rock" during the Top 20 Hawaii round on March 16 - a performance of Bethel Music's "Ain't No Grave" that earned unanimous praise from all four judges and left Carrie Underwood visibly emotional. Harper performed alongside Makiyah, Jake Thistle, Genevieve Heyward, Daniel Stallworth, Kyndal, Kutter Bradley, Jesse Findling, Braden Rumfelt, and Brooks during the first night of Top 20 Hawaii performances.

What the judges said about her

Lionel Richie told Harper she went "from singing to preaching," and said the moment she had the crowd bobbing meant she had their full attention. Carrie Underwood told her the performance showed "a fire that is in you" and said she reminded her of herself during her own winning season on the show. Luke Bryan called it his favorite Hannah Harper performance yet. Guest judge Keke Palmer said simply: "Excellent."

Where does she stand now?

America is voting for 10 of the Top 20 to make it through to the Top 14. Results will not be revealed until the March 30 episode. Harper's spot in the next round depends entirely on the votes coming in right now.

Why her story matters beyond the competition

Hannah Harper grew up singing bluegrass gospel music in a family band from ages nine to sixteen, performing at churches across Missouri. Her original song "String Cheese" - written about postpartum depression and the faith that carried her through it - made Carrie Underwood cry during auditions and has been viewed over 750,000 times. The Hawaii performance proved she is not a one-moment artist.

She came to this show with a gospel voice, a mother's heart, and a story rooted in faith. Now it's America's turn to decide if that story continues.
