Mad Max Fury Road Release Date, Spoilers and Review: Mel Gibson Replaced by Tom Hardy in Lead Role, while Charilze Theron and Zoe Kravitz to feature as Female Leads
Mad Max was an amazing franchise. Mel Gibson's performance in the Mad Max catapulted him to world fame and the successes of the movie made it Australia's highest grossing movie and held the Guinness record for most profitable movie for decades . With the Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome coming out in 1985, fans abandoned all hope of a sequel and moved on with their drab Max-less life. Little did we know that the wheels were turning behind the scenes bringing us closer and closer to the fourth Mad Max movie; Mad Max: Fury Road being released on May 15, 2015.
In this installment Max meets a woman who wishes to cross the desert. This movie has been almost thirty years in the making. Village Road-show allotted the project a very generous 100 million dollars in 2003 but production stalled due to security concerns at their shooting destination, Namibia. When they were set to go at it again the Iraqi war broke out and it was abandoned for political reasons. In 2006, George Millar the series' writer and director decided he was not going to let his baby die and picked the project up again but decided to drop Mel Gibson from the cast because of his age. In 2009 the production house considered (tragically) turning the movie into a 3D animation movie and even went into pre-production. The idea was (thankfully) dropped and replaced by the idea for two 3D movies; Mad Max: Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa. Filming began in summer of 2012 and wrapped after a very productive eighteen months over budget and highly anticipated.
George Miller shall be staying on as director, Producer and writer, adding the very capable Nico Lathouris and the famous comic writer Brendan McCarthy to his writing staff. The cast shall be missing the much loved Mr. Gibson who has been replaced by Tom Hardy known for his stunning performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. He will be joined by Charlize Theron and Zoe Kravitz among a host of other talented actors. Mr. Hardy has big shoes to fill which we hope he has done perfectly as we await the return of 'Mad' Max Rockatansky.
