NBA News and Rumors: Andrew Wiggins' Take On His Trade To The Wolves
The Cleveland Cavaliers has already reached an agreement in principle with the Minnesota Timberwolves to trade Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a first-round pick in exchange for All-Star forward Kevin Love, who will join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to "create the most devastating trio in the NBA" according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski's league sources. However, that agreement cannot be finalized until August 23 because Wiggins, being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, cannot be officially traded until one month after the signing of his rookie contract. So until then, the trade deal still has to be kept confined within the category of NBA rumors.
Publicly, Wiggins will not comment on his rumored impending trade to the Minessota Timberwolves. When pressed for his views by reporters, the 19-year old former Kansas University stand-out would simply say, "Whatever happens is out of my control. I'm not worrying about it right now... Anywhere, any team, I can play anywhere. Whatever God wants...No matter what happens, I'm always concentrating on basketball."
Bill Self, Wiggins' former coach at Kansas, according to Sporting News, however revealed what his former star player really wants. He said, "When all this trade stuff started, I talked to Andrew and Andrew told me, 'I hope I get traded.' And I'm like, 'No you don't.' And he said, 'Coach, I do. It's better for me, knowing my personality and what I need to do, to go somewhere where I'm forced to be something as opposed to going in there where they're going to be patient with me and I'm going to be a piece.'"
Self adding his own thoughts said, "Even though in a weird way everybody would love the opportunity to play with LeBron because you're guaranteed winning, for the longevity of his career, he needs to develop that mindset to be the guy, for him to be great, and I think being Minnesota will help him do that." With the Timberwolves where he's really wanted, Wiggins would very likely be a good fit.
With respect to the other side in the rumored trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers now has an even bigger chance at making it to the NBA finals with Love added to their lineup.
