Journey 3 Release Date, Latest News: Film Still At Development Stage of Production, But Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson Sure to be Back

Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon, originally expected to be released in theaters within 2014, is still at the development stage as of August 15 according to Movie Insider.

Journey 3 is the third installment in the franchise which began in 2008 with the release of "Journey to the Center of the Earth." In 2012, the first film was followed by "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." For Journey 3, Warner Bros. Pictures remains as the franchise distributor while New Line Cinema is still in charge of production. Journey 3 will be directed by Brad Peyton, who was also director for Journey 2.

There is still no Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon trailer as filming has not even started yet. In fact, the script for the Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon full movie has yet to be written. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chad and Carey Hayes have just been hired to write the scripts for Journey 3, as well as for the fourth installment in the fantasy-film series adapted from the Jules Verne's science fiction novels.

Dwayne Johnson is already attached to reprise his role as Navy code-breaker Hank in Journey 3 and Journey 4. Josh Hutcherson, though not formally attached to the franchise, is expected to return as well to reprise his portrayal of Hank's stepson Sean in the two Journey sequels.

The plot line for Journey 3 has yet to be developed by the Hayes brothers, but back in 2012 Peyton told Cinema Blend that the sequel to Journey 2 will be much bigger. He said, "I know we've just scratched the surface of what we can do. This one's going to be a lot bigger. We're going to go to a completely different world. It's just going to be a bigger experience, and we're going to grow the mythology. Journey 2 was about rebooting a franchise; now it's about making the seminal work in the franchise."
