More than five months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home, a veteran crime scene investigator is publicly criticizing how the case has been handled - saying the Guthrie family still has no clear answers.

Sheryl McCollum, an active crime scene investigator based in metro Atlanta, made the comments July 1 on NewsNation's Jesse Weber Live. "This investigation is so botched," she said. "You have not seen Savannah and her family on the same podium as the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff. They should have been standing together, making statements, from day one. And we haven't seen that yet."

McCollum's remarks followed a statement from FBI Phoenix acknowledging it had received multiple ransom notes tied to the case - some deemed fake extortion attempts, others still considered potentially legitimate.

Asked about the toll the case has taken on Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Annie and Camron, McCollum didn't soften her answer. "Nobody has told them the straight-up truth," she said, adding that the family remains without clarity on whether one suspect or several were involved, or what happened to Nancy after she disappeared.

Nancy, 84, was last seen at her Tucson home on January 31. The case, upgraded to a homicide investigation in June, remains open with no suspect named.

Through it all, the Guthrie family's faith has remained the one visible constant - Savannah telling Today viewers in past appearances, "We feel your prayers," a reminder that even without answers, the family hasn't stopped holding onto hope.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or Tucson's 88-Crime tip line at 520-882-7463.
